Nuestra historia
In 2001, a food pantry operated out of a large closet in St. John’s United Methodist Church. Initially, bags of food were stored in the associate pastor’s office. As the demand for food assistance grew, the church established a partnership between the congregation and the Food Depot Regional Food Bank.
In 2011, the pantry needed relocated from the janitor’s closet to a larger storage area in the church’s Fellowship Hall. In 2014, after the church preschool closed, volenteers renovated by volunteers using donations from local companies.
Before the pandemic, food distribution took place indoors using a client-choice model on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Customers were able to select items from the food that had been sorted and organized that same morning. However, when the pandemic began, the Pantry had to completely revamp its model in just five days. Since then, distribution has moved outside to the Pantry parking lot on Tuesday mornings, with most customers arriving by car. Volunteers now pack boxes in an assembly line fashion after spending several hours sorting and organizing food that was delivered that morning from the Food Depot.
In 2021, a small homebound delivery program was initiated to bring groceries to those who have no car and no other options to obtain groceries. In December 2023, the Pantry added a second distribution on Tuesday evenings.
